Artemis II has officially returned to Earth after completing a groundbreaking journey around the Moon, marking the first crewed lunar mission in over five decades. The Orion spacecraft splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego on April 10, bringing back four astronauts after a 10 day mission that pushed the limits of modern space travel.
Launched by NASA, the mission carried its crew beyond low Earth orbit and around the Moon, reaching distances no human mission has achieved in recent history. Using a carefully planned free return path, the spacecraft relied on the Moon’s gravity to guide it back home, an efficient and precise path that played a key role in the mission’s success.
The return journey was one of the most intense phases, with the capsule re-entering Earth’s atmosphere at extreme speeds and temperatures reaching up to 3,000°C.

This mission now sets the stage for the next phase of human space exploration.
