President William Ruto has sent his condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Hafidh died on Monday morning while receiving treatment at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where he had been undergoing treatment for a heart condition.

In a message shared on his X account on Monday, September 7, Ruto said he had received the news of Hafidh’s death with deep sorrow and conveyed his condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Kenya, the First Lady, my family and on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania,” Ruto said.

He described Hafidh as a lifelong companion to President Samia and a beloved father to their children, while also mourning him as a distinguished Tanzanian.

“President Samia has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son,” Ruto added.

The death was announced by Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi, who said Hafidh died at 8:00am while undergoing treatment.

Ruto assured Tanzania of Kenya’s solidarity during the period of mourning, as the country comes to terms with the loss of the President’s husband.
